Happy September everyone!

I am happy to report that your president is now a legitimate member of the Studebaker Drivers Club; I FINALLY own a Studebaker!! I now have a 1953 Commander Starliner hardtop. After more than a year of hoping that something would happen to allow me to approach the older gentleman Im sure I told most of you about (he had 8 Studebakers in his backyard for approximately 40 years!) and try to convince him to sell the 53

Commander to me, unfortunately for him, someone (I think one of his tenants) complained about the cars in the backyard and he is now under pressure from the city to remove the inoperative vehicles. He called me and I went to see the cars again and I was fortunate enough that he decided to sell me the Commander hardtop. Since he has to get the remainder of the vehicles off of the property, I have arranged (thank you Dennis) with our vice president to store the cars on Dennis OBriens property in Sylmar. Most of the cars should be on Dennis property by September 25th. We can discuss this at our meeting on September 27th. I would like to give members of our chapter the first chance to look at these cars and see if any of our members are interested in purchasing any of them. Ill provide a list of the cars (with descriptions) at the meeting. Maybe we can make it a club event to go to Dennis house and check out the cars. I hope to see all of you at the meeting on the 27th.

Letter From Your Editor

A visit to Howard and Dennis new junkyard (err, collection of future restorations) sounds great, but we have a few business items to contemplate at our next meeting.

1.      Holiday party-where and what? Cant book this stuff in December.

2.      Old World Village Meet coming up. This is a nice show in a location with shade and food. More of our members should go so that I win less raffle prizes, and so that other Studebaker owners come to our meet.

3.      We are having a winter meet in 2008, arent we? We really need to get that (and the publicity for it) under way now. If we have the details by the Old World Meet we can hand out fliers to all the Studebaker owners there.

4.      We knew it would happen sooner or later Howard. I was borrowed as newsletter editor (about 10 years ago) because I liked Studebakers (having had one in the family that parked next to my Edsel) but not owning one (or really wanting to own one). Well, within a couple years one followed me home. You may have a little more work to get yours to follow you anywhere, but glad to hear you found yours (or your Studebaker found you somehow).
